Our honeymoon in Kenya… The weather was balmy, apart from the odd dramatic downpour.\u00a0 \u00a0Our first night was spent in a beautiful lodge in a crater, surrounded by water buffalo, giraffe, zebra and my favourite warthog. \u00a0In the evening we are taken for a walk, and get up close and personal with the giraffes, before having a glass of bubbly in the sunset at the craters edge! \u00a0We take a trip to Lake Naivasha to see pods of hippos, which float alarmingly close to the boat, as well as flock after flock of pink flamingo.<\/p>\n
After exploring Hell’s Gate National Park, an extraordinary sandstone gully, we are driven along a bumpy track to the Maji Moto eco camp. \u00a0The drive itself is an experience, with colourful villages, dotted along the road, until we reach the savannah. \u00a0The camp is beautifully situated on a ridge overlooking the savannah, and we are welcomed by the friendly Masaai people, particularly Sankale, who taught us about the people and the native plants and wildlife. \u00a0We are able to walk around and see the wildebeest, emu and zebra around us.<\/p>\n
The second campsite, in the Masai Mara, is in theory more luxurious, with its double bed and ‘en suite’ toilet, but we find it a little less friendly with the feeling of being waited on by the poor people who brought hot water for the showers and certainly more touristy. \u00a0\u00a0 Driving through the reserve in our we spot wilderbeest migrating, one by one, by one by one in an endless chain; lazy lions sleeping, getting up only briefly to satisfy carnal desires; beautiful cheetahs gazing for food and then slinking through the grass in search of lunch. \u00a0 We race to see each animal before the other trucks carrying more tourists and plenty of cameras… the results are below!<\/p>\n\n\t\t
